Learn best practices for starting and running a float center:
  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

A few years ago, if someone published information online about floating, chances are that it would spread quickly.

There wasn’t much available and what was available only had a small tight-knit circle to disseminate through.

As the industry is growing, there are float centers opening up all over the world and the press is starting to take notice. Big press… ABC Nightline News… even Oprah.

We’ve always said, the more people talking about floating, the better. Once float tanks reaches the collective consciousness, more people will be wanting to explore their own consciousness… in your tanks!

Aside from helping to spread news articles on floating, it’s important to stay up to date on float research and innovations. Knowing what was recently talked about will help you be a resource of information to your customers.
How to monitor a niche industry

What should be on your radar?

Keywords like:

  • Floating
  • Float tank
  • Floatation (and Flotation)
  • Restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST)
  • Isolation tank
  • Sensory Deprivation
  • John C. Lilly

… and anything that you’ve encountered in conversation with fellow float tank center owners or floaters. You might want to considering monitoring common misspellings of your center’s name (e.g. “FloatOn” instead of “Float On”).

A Few Ways to Monitor Today!

Email – Sign up for the newsletters of your favorite resources and find out about the latest information as soon as it hits your inbox (Ahem… check out the lovely box at the top of this blog).

Blogs – More people are beginning to operate blogs about floating. Use an RSS reader like Feedly to monitor when a new post is published.

Social Media – At the very least, you should actively monitor your brand mentions & keywords mentions in your local market. Aside from monitoring your center, track keywords and industry mentions using tools like Twilert, Hootsuite or Mention. If you’re looking to easily browse a lot of Facebook pages in one sitting, you can create an interest list and follow your favorite float centers and pages.

Google Alerts – For everything else there’s Google. Using Google alerts will notify you either daily (via email) or instantly via RSS reader of when a new post on the Internet mentions a keyword, or series of keywords that you want to know about.

Whatever method you prefer, the point is the same…
Figure out what you want to monitor, and automate the process.

We live in a busy, salt-filled world…
Don’t spend your entire day looking for information, have the information come to you!
